Twilight Marzelina Sparkle is a young mage being mentored by Magus President Celestia. As traditional Canterlot mages go, Twilight’s goal is to master magic and not rely on her Mana/Magical Devices. Mana devices are used to support mages on their study for magic, they are like training wheels but takes decades to master.
Due to Twilight’s anti-social nature Celestia sent her to the town of Ponyville to help her break out of her shell and socialize with the townspeople. After making good friends with 5 other girls, Twilight decided to stay in Ponyville while continuing her studies, also keeping in touch with Celestia on her life through letters sent by Spike.
